Playing Age Guidelines

Harney Little League believes very strongly in helping children and their families make the most out of their Little League baseball experience.  In doing so we want participants of our league to place their child in the most appropriate division.  To help, Harney offers five divisions which cater to varying skill levels and are generally aligned with Little League International rules and standards.  Please take a moment to review each division as described below before registering your child for the upcoming season.

Division Information

Tee Ball Division (Ages 4-6) | Introduction to Baseball Basics

The Tee Ball Division is the perfect starting point for children ages 4-6 to learn and fall in love with the game of baseball. This beginner-level program focuses on teaching essential baseball skills in a fun, supportive, and non-competitive environment.

Young players will develop fundamental skills like holding a bat, hitting off a tee, and playing catch, all while enjoying engaging drills and interactive games. Beyond the basics, Tee Ball promotes teamwork, builds confidence, and fosters a lifelong passion for sports.

Join our Tee Ball program today and give your child the perfect introduction to baseball!

Coach Pitch (A Ball) Division - Generally reserved for ages 6-7

In the Coach Pitch Division, players are introduced to the fundamentals of baseball. They focus on basic skills like playing catch and hitting without the use of a tee. This division is designed to help young athletes build confidence and develop a love for the game while learning the basics of fielding and batting. While there is an emphasis made to hit without a tee, after 6 pitches, a tee will be used for those players that have not made contact to help with pace of play and to build on the enjoyment of the game.

This division prepares athletes for more competitive play, with a focus on improving technique and tactical knowledge.

Player Petition Guidelines

Our divisions generally overlap; however, in some cases your child may play up or down in a division as it relates to their age qualification.  We recognize this may occur and have a standard petition process for parents to follow.  Before following the petition process, a parent should consider their child's well-being and safety as the number one priority.  Secondly, a parent should consider the experience they wish for their child to have playing baseball for the upcoming season.

If you would like to petition your child to play up or down a division then all requests must be noted in writing and emailed to the league's Player Agent. Please navigate to the "About Us > Our Staff" page to find the Player Agent's contact details.  When emailing please include your player's name, age, last division played and desired division for your child.
